Our story
A family farm three kilometres from the sea
The land
Thirteen hectares of inland Algarve
Olive and carob trees, a stone-edged pool in a lawned garden, a vegetable patch that feeds the house, and rows of vines on red soil running up to the hillside. The sea is three kilometres away, but the quinta belongs to the countryside behind Armação de Pêra.
We bought the estate in 2013 and have been restoring it ever since, one piece at a time — the apartment house first, then the vineyard, then the events hall and the wine store, then the stables. It is a working farm, run by the family, and it is meant to feel like one.
How it grew
Twelve years, four beginnings
2013
The estate, and the house
We bought the quinta and began with the apartment house — the pink building with the dark green shutters that guests still arrive at today.
2017
The vineyard
Two point two hectares of vines went into the red soil: Alvarinho and Chardonnay for the whites, Touriga Nacional, Aragonês and Syrah for the reds.
2020
The first wine
We built the events hall and the wine store, and our first red and our first white came out. The same year the first five sheep and five cattle came to the farm.
2021
The stables and the arena
Boxes, paddocks and a riding arena were built at the top of the estate — and the first medals for our wine arrived from the Concurso de Vinhos do Algarve.
The animals
Chickens, calves and a morning round
Chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys, sheep and lambs, cows and calves. Children staying with us are taken round to meet them all — it is usually the part of the holiday they talk about afterwards.
The place
Alcantarilha e Pêra, Silves
We are in the parish of Alcantarilha e Pêra, in the municipality of Silves — orange groves, small roads and the N125 a few minutes away. The beaches are close enough to go twice a day, and the hill villages are close enough to make an afternoon of.
